Time Warner Cable added more than 54,000 residential customers for video during the fourth quarter to become positive for 2015, the first time the company managed that since 2006.

During December, Time Warner Cable, Charter and Advance/Newhouse Partnership, which is the parent company to Bright House Networks that are scheduled to all become one, have filed a number of materials requested by the FCC.

More importantly, Time Warner Cable announced that possibly 320,000 passwords and email addresses were stolen from customers across the country by hackers.

The cable provider said it was told by the FBI of the possible data breach and has not yet determined how the data was taken.

However, the company said there was not any evidence that the system at Time Warner Cable that operates the customer emails had been breached.

The company, based in New York, said that it is likely the emails with their passwords were stolen either via malware that was downloaded during a phishing attack or indirectly via data breaches of other businesses that stored customer information of Time Warner Cable.

The company is currently contacting its customers who might have been affected. It is asking them to change their passwords on their emails as a precaution.

The company emphasized that the account data potentially taken accounts for less than 2% of the complete number of clients email accounts the company is managing.

The theft, said TWC over the weekend, appears as if it focused on those who use Roadrunner service from the company or those with an email addresses that has a suffix of rr.com.

Back during 2009, a big vulnerability in a number of cable modems on the networks of Time Warner/Roadrunner left over 65,000 clients open to an attack.

Comcast a rival of TWC in November had to reset more than 600,000 passwords on user accounts that had been stolen repeatedly and then sold on the dark Web.

Close to 200,000 were legitimate while others turned out outdated
